Meeting with Mr XX who works as the managing director of a german company yy where he manages 100 people currently, he joined the company in 2001, in the heart of the telecom recession, had to fire 100 people from the company. Has also been to iraq at the time of the war with Iran, was stuck in a desert in Algeria with a broken electronic devise which needed to be fixed if he wanted to get out of there.
Key messages:
1- LISTEN to people and ask
2- Open in life and movement in life (need to change)
3- High believer in experiences and cultures
4- Moved to Germany when he was 33 without knowing German
5- Make an informed decision and take your time to make it, if you dont understand the decision that you take, dont take it. Rely on gut and "feeling" sometimes
6- Be open to take back the decision that you took, no egos- willinging to change midway
7- 40% of the agenda is in your control but 60% is managed by others(people in the company/family)
8- See potential rather than facts
9- Give to get
10- Never do things half, go all the way and then move onto something else
11- Trust of people takes a long time
12- Company goal: Success of your customer
13- Sales Experience is key
14- He also runs a technical sort of school for students to get them interested in technology, so he has children who come and see how work is done and why is it done in this company. He believes to succeed we need people to innovate and being strong at technology is very important.
Other things:
1- German companies work on the future of the company rather than the current share prices
The second part of the session was on time management
i had never really thought about it, but after some research came out with a concept of dividing the day into 3 parts:
a) One part of the day where i focus on the long term/short term plan (i was told that i have time till june to do this)
b) Reflect on what was done during the day
c) Prepare for next day
and in the middle i have friends, family, running and everything.People pointed out that i have a "fear of missing out" because i wanted to attend all events and do everything and thats not really possible, i soon needed to find out what i would want to do. I cant do everything!!!
So here are another 2 things i thought of
1) Getting to work with the customer of the product that the company creates
2) Interaction with people
and earlier i had said a place which has a a strong value system and where i can work in a team.
